Infrastructure
It takes a village to host a truly regenerative event. Attention to detail, transportation, consumption and waste management is key to improving the ways we gather for efficiency to minimize environmental impact. We want to make it easy for you to create a supportive foundation on which you build your regenerative event strategy using this checklist:
-
Evaluate existing event production practices and waste streams.
-
Evaluate the location and best practices for waste management within that location.
-
Assess the impact your waste streams have on the environment and identify preferred vendors to mitigate impact.
-
Assess transportation and accessibility to and from the venue for attendees.
-
Determine ride share and public transportation partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
-
Audit all partners to ensure they align with your Regenerative Events policies and procedures.
-
Develop and maintain comprehensive strategies for minimizing waste streams to develop closed loop systems with preferred local vendors.
-
Identify a local compost partner for food waste along with recycling and sustainable product partners.
-
Train & educate all team members on policy & procedure adherence.
There is always room for innovation within event infrastructure. We seek to continuously improve our systems and procedures to adopt and adapt to each gathering for minimizing waste, pollution, emissions and consumption. When we begin to view events as ecosystems and microcosms of our larger communities, we can begin to implement practical solutions as prototypes that can be utilized beyond our events and integrated into our daily lives.
Responsible Waste Management
Prioritizing responsible waste management becomes imperative for achieving success within large and small scale event productions. Discover and get inspired below for ways to enhance your event's waste management strategies:
-
Provide and make it mandatory with vendors that their food and beverage containers are made from compostable materials. Have a strategy to ensure that recyclables are indeed recycled.
-
Invest in reusable & compostable cups and other materials not as swag but as an investment in a greener event industry. Align with preferred vendors to properly dispose of any non-reusable supplies and materials.
-
Place recycling and composting cans throughout your venue and minimize regular trash cans. Display clear instructions and signage for attendees to know how best to dispose of their waste. When possible higher designated waste staff to clearly direct and monitor bins for proper disposal. Create clear signage for what goes in each bin to avoid cross-contamination.
-
Plastic free is the way to be. Commit to a zero plastics policy at your event.
-
Collect and analyze reports detailing power consumption, water usage, and waste removal after each event. Before each event evaluate how best to reduce consumption and waste.
-
Research different waste removal providers and prioritize companies with eco-friendly policies and procedures.
-
Whenever possible provide compostable to-go containers and request that all leftover food be donated to local organizations and food banks. Collaborate with local food non-profits to redirect potential food waste to those who are food insecure.
